Teratology Information Services (TIS)

The Teratology Information Service (TIS) of Lareb is the knowledge centre on safety of drugs used before and during pregnancy and during breastfeeding. Our experts gather information on the safety of drugs used before and during pregnancy and during breastfeeding by researching literature. This knowledge is presented on the Dutch website of Lareb. Experts are also providing information by telephone.

The Dutch Pregnancy Drug Register monitors the use and safety of drugs during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Within this cohort study, pregnant women receive six questionnaires in total about lifestyle and drugs used during pregnancy and shortly after giving birth. In this way, experiences with drugs used during pregnancy and the breastfeeding period can be studied. Both the TIS and the Dutch Pregnancy Drug Register are part of Moeders van Morgen Lareb.

Monitoring of the safety of drug use during pregnancy is a special topic of interest in pharmacovigilance (PV) and requires a distinct approach. To support other PV centres in the practice of PV specific to the use of drugs during pregnancy a Pregnancy PV-toolkit is developed. 

Moeders van Morgen Lareb collaborates with international TIS-Centres. We are part of the European Network of Teratology Information Services (ENTIS) and collaborate with The Organization of Teratology Information Specialists (OTIS). Moeders van Morgen Lareb participates in ConcePTION, an Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) project.
